What We Believe
First Church is an Apostolic congregation founded upon the belief that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. As such, we believe and teach the apostles doctrine, endeavoring to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ with love, mercy and compassion.
We believe that there is one Lord, one Faith and one Baptism. (Ephesians 4:5)
- One Lord
-
There is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4). He is the creator of heaven and earth, and of all living beings. He has revealed Himself to humanity as the Father (Creator), in the Son (Savior), and as the Holy Ghost (indwelling Spirit).
(Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 4:4-6; Colossians 2:9; I Timothy 3:16)
- One Faith
-
We believe the original doctrine that was delivered to the Apostles in the book of Acts.
- One Baptism
-
One baptism refers to baptism by immersion in water, and the Holy Spirit baptism experienced by the first church in Acts chapter 2.
Water baptism is an essential part of New Testament salvation and not merely a symbolic ritual. It is part of entering into the kingdom of God (God's church, the bride of Christ), and therefore, it is not merely a part of local church membership.
(John 3:5; Galatians 3:27.)
Speaking in tongues means speaking miraculously in a language unknown to the speaker, as the Spirit gives utterance.
